After writing a few reviews and such, I found myself writing about Anime that are usually in the ‘Slice of Life’ genre. Which I thought was really neat, but anyway, today we’re going to be talking about ReLIFE, another Slice of Life Anime.
ReLIFE is an Anime that aired in the Summer of 2016, and is also one of the better known Anime in the community, with just under 300k user on MyAnimeList having it on their lists. The main question I will be tasking about it today is, does ReLIFE deserve a second season?
Episode Count: 13
“Dismissed as a hopeless loser by those around him, 27-year-old Arata Kaizaki bounces around from one job to another after quitting his first company. His unremarkable existence takes a sharp turn when he meets Ryou Yoake, a member of the ReLife Research Institute, who offers Arata the opportunity to change his life for the better with the help of a mysterious pill. Taking it without a second thought, Arata awakens the next day to find that his appearance has reverted to that of a 17-year-old.
Arata soon learns that he is now the subject of a unique experiment and must attend high school as a transfer student for one year. Though he initially believes it will be a cinch due to his superior life experience, Arata is proven horribly wrong on his first day: he flunks all his tests, is completely out of shape, and can’t keep up with the new school policies that have cropped up in the last 10 years. Furthermore, Ryou has been assigned to observe him, bringing Arata endless annoyance. ReLIFE follows Arata’s struggle to adjust to his hectic new lifestyle and avoid repeating his past mistakes, all while slowly discovering more about his fellow classmates.”
ReLIFE is based on a web manga, different from your ordinary manga, as this one has colour! To keep it short and simple, ReLIFE is about a character who is given this pill which allows them to relive their high school year in the present day (No time travel here). Hence the title ReLIFE.
And like what the synopsis says, it basically takes these people who suck in their adult lives and didn’t have the best high school careers, and brings them back to that time. Forcing them to re-invent themselves as people, so that when they go back to living their everyday adult lives, they are a completed changed as a human.
Does this deserve a second season?
Yes, yes it does. I had the opportunity to watch this Anime over my winter vacation last year and I for one really loved the Anime. In fact, I loved it so much that I started reading the manga, and boy is the story really good!
I believe ReLIFE should get a second season because the first season was just a taster. The story shown in the original series just goes on itself in the manga and branches off into different other stories making it for something really entertaining. If you loved this Anime, then I suggest you read the web manga because it definitely is a really good story.
If this Anime were to get a second season however, I would be really critical of it because I’m an avid reader of the manga. All that being said, if this Anime got a second season, without a doubt would this Anime live up to the expectations every second season has. I trust in the studio to get it right because I believe if ReLIFE were to get a second season, that it would be without a doubt amazing.
OH! For those who haven’t seen ReLIFE before, you’re really missing out! Watch the Anime, it’s really good 🙂
