Kaichou wa Maid-sama! | Worthy of second Season?

Where do I begin? Maid-sama! is definitely one of my favourite Animes of all time. I stumbled across this Anime because I was on Mangafox, looking for a manga to read when I saw that Kaichou wa Maid-sama! at the time was in the top 10. So I thought to myself “Okay, a romance Manga, something I can definitely get into”.

From then on, I haven’t turned back. The manga itself, in my opinion, is a masterpiece. It is really well written and has an amazing story. However, I didn’t come across the Anime until it was featured on an Anime Top List (TopAnimeWeekly). As a person who read the manga, I had really high expectations and I got to say it did really well in terms of keeping true to the actual manga.

But we’re not here to discuss the manga, we’re here to discuss why I think Maid-sama, an Anime that is 7 years old should deserve a second season.

Episode Count: 26

MyAnimeList Synopsis:
“Being the first female student council president isn’t easy, especially when your school just transitioned from an all boys high school to a co-ed one. Aptly nicknamed “Demon President” by the boys for her strict disciplinary style, Misaki Ayuzawa is not afraid to use her mastery of Aikido techniques to cast judgment onto the hordes of misbehaving boys and defend the girls at Seika High School.

Yet even the perfect Ayuzawa has an embarrassing secret—she works part-time as a maid at a maid café to help her struggling family pay the bills. She has managed to keep her job hidden from her fellow students and maintained her flawless image as a stellar student until one day, Takumi Usui, the most popular boy in school, walks into the maid café. He could destroy her reputation with her secret… or he could twist the student council president around his little finger and use her secret as an opportunity to get closer to her.”

Meh Review

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! is far from your regular romance anime and that is EXACTLY why you’ll love it. While most anime, if they have a romance element, tease you by implying character feelings with subtle interactions but no real physical connection such as a kiss and without spoiling much Kaichou doesn’t exactly have a lot of physical connections either but it’s just so bluntly put you love it.

Story: 10
While the storyline in Kaichou is not complex and the most intense thing ever you’ll fall helplessly in love with every element of it. From the comedic side-stories to the annoying childhood friend to the stubborn protagonist not admitting their feelings! There are so many elements intertwined within the story that create this bittersweet mood you can’t escape. It also does an amazing job sticking to the manga. It entails the romantic adventure and development of Usui and Misaki, two high school students.

This storyline development is really well done and doesn’t miss out on details that could leave loopholes within their romantic relationship and friendship. However, as the manga itself is 18 volumes with almost 100 chapters total, the story does not dive into extreme detail which the manga does.

So if you love the Anime story, then you’ll definitely love the Manga too, mainly because it goes more indepth and develops even more.

Art: 9
Kaichou wa Maid-sama isn’t the most recent series but it’s art style definitely compares to some recent anime and I would argue effortlessly that it is really easy on the eyes. You’ll find as you watch the artist do a fantastic job of really visually allowing you to follow the cute story of Kaichou!

Sound: 8
Despite not having any of my favorite songs Kaichou does bring some nice songs within its OST that I can sit down and listen to every now and then to really relive the ever amazing experience of watching Kaichou wa Maid-sama! Now I will say I did love the main theme and don’t get that mixed up with the opening, the main theme is super cute and plays throughout multiple parts of the series. You’ll know it fully after five episodes what I’m talking about.

Character: 10
The characters presented in Kaichou are definitely among some of my favorites. Usui has this quiet/shy nature about him which allows him to appear mysterious to women and that leads to easily teasing them! Usui you’ll find is rather comical, reserved but also just out there. He fits perfectly with Misaki, who will become his girlfriend later on (spoiler).
Misaki now, she is your typical yet slightly cuter Tsundere that we all fandom over! Her characteristics are rather aggressive at first but slowly over time she shows more kindness and even some extra stuff all of you romance lovers will just die over! As you watch Kaichou you’ll find between these two main characters fit perfectly and the supporting characters will lead you on an entertaining adventure of romance, heartbreak and much more.

The Verdict
Will they make a second season? Probably not, it’s been 7 years I don’t think this Anime will be getting on anytime soon. The Anime is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the actual story. The manga takes the characters and develops them even further and is overall one of the best stories that you could possibly read.

The manga has so much content and takes the story to a whole new level. There wouldn’t be a problem in making a second season for it either because the content is there. You won’t run out of a story to tell, it wouldn’t need to be drawn out because like all stories it has an eventual end, which definitely wraps up the story beautifully.

If there ever was an Anime worthy of a second season, it would definitely, without a doubt, be Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

Nice to see someone giving some love to an anime/manga very close to my heart after so long but I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s the best thing ever. Good it may be but, as much as I love it, I don’t think I’d be able to give it 10/10, even considering my personal enjoyment of the series (and the fact that finishing the final chapter left me as tearful mess on the floor).

To be fair, I wouldn’t mind a second season, though.
