WOO! The first “First Impressions”. Today, I will be talking about “Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai” or “Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai” which aired last year.
This Anime, I thought presented something very cool and unusual. The Anime starts off with a flashback scene, with the male protagonist, Sakuta. During that flashback, you hear a girl say “Why don’t we just kiss?” causing Sakuta to wake up not remembering a thing. This is interesting to me because from what is hinted at the beginning of the episode and at the end of the episode, it FEELS as though Sakuta has some sort of memory loss. I think this is the case because he has this journal in his desk that he reads at the beginning. This journal makes several appearances throughout the first episode.
Sakuta’s personality is rather dull, he doesn’t typically talk to everyone, he is always by himself. His circle of friends is rather small – he says midway through the episode that he only has two friends. However, despite the dull personality, I think he’s very thoughtful. Why you might ask? Well, it’s because during the episode he gives this speech about misunderstandings (that is all I’ll say) and I thought it was very insightful and really caught my attention.
Moving onto the female protagonist, Mai Sakurajima. She is portrayed quite similar to Sakuta because she too has a past, and has this weird thing where she cannot be seen by the people around her every so often. This is showed off in the Anime when Mai and Sakuta go to order bread, and when Mai briefly talked about her past on the train. Like Sakuta, I thought Mai’s personality was rather dull. She preferred to be by herself and she didn’t have friends of her own.
What I really enjoyed about the first episode was the connection between the two characters, Sakuta and Mai have at the start of the episode. They are total strangers to one another, but their dynamic works whenever they’re with each other and I really like that.
Moving onto a few minor things, the OP and ED don’t have any significance for the Anime, I find them both to be average at best. As per the art style of the Anime, it’s okay. I think the main problem I see right now with the art of the Anime, is that the design of the characters do not match with the background settings they are in. The background is really well done, you can see the various details but then you overlay the characters on that and it seems as though the characters are out-of-place. I think this is because of the lack of detail in the characters. There are some scenes where it looks like characters are getting copied and pasted with noticeable inconsistencies in the design of the characters.
However, despite that, the Anime did well to capture my attention, I cannot wait to finish this Anime.

I just bookmarked it. Sounds much better than the picture of the Bunny-Girl would lead me to believe.
Yeah, I was hesitant to pick up this anime because the picture too. It’s definitely a misleading picture
