Wow! Something “new” on my blog for once. Now this is EPIC. Hi friends, welcome to another episode review, this time I’ll be talking about my views on the first episode of Kakushigoto. The lack thereof synopsis to this currently airing anime says it all;
“We will open the curtain back in time, to the story of one lone manga creator.”
This story is about Gotou Kakushi, an artist who draws a somewhat vulgar manga, and tries to hide it for the sake of his daughter, Hime. A father-daughter tale of love and laughter.

It’s a father-daughter story, a Slice of Life, Comedy, Shounen Anime. Gotou does everything humanly possible to hide what he does from his daughter, while his daughter is on a quest, from a young age, to find out what her father really does. This premise seems simple enough, that is for certain.
Luckily, if you’re an indivdual who partly determines whether or not an Anime is worth watching by the OP and ED alone. You get to hear both of them within the first episode. Both the OP “Chiisana Hibi (ちいさな日々)” by flumpool”, and ED “”Kimi wa Tenneniro (君は天然色)” by Eiichi Ootaki (大滝詠一)” I thought were both pleasant to listen to and I think is generally better than most OP and ED you hear today. So for me, that’s a plus.
Obviously, as this is only the first episode, the art style still hasn’t sunk it yet for me to really share how I really feel about them. However, what you can notice right off the bat, is that the character design is rather unique, and is something totally different from your “typical” anime. The characters look a lot more “cartoony” for lack thereof a better word. Is this a good thing? Probably? it does give off a rather playful vibe. However, it does feel a little bit unnatural as you’re used to see a similar character design to other Anime you’ve seen, so it’s something you’ve got to get used to. The character design is rather simplistic, each character isn’t outlined in insane detail, it feels rather minimal. The hair, feels rather bland, the eyes are drawn really big (this depends on the character, but generally this is the case), and overall complexion feels rather dry.
Another thing about this first episode, that was a little overwhelming for me was the number of characters introduced at once time. As the first episode was 23 minutes in length, as a viewer, I was introduced to probably 10 characters within the span of 23 minutes. All of them have their own personalities and their own little quirks about them, but they are all contrasting personalities. Some are very quiet; some are very loud; some are very dull; some a very jolly. It can get very overwhelming, I surely was overwhelmed. To me, I think that was the one BIG negative I had about the first episode, is that they overloaded you with a number of characters, all of which are the supporting cast in a span of 23 minutes.
Anywho, these are my thoughts on the first episode. Although there were some drawbacks to the Anime, there were also some positives. I am lookin’ forward to watching the show!
