Tonikaku Kawaii | Episode 8 and 9

Episode 8

I always thought that Nasa was one weird dude, but I can see where he got that from. Nasa’s parents are on another level of weird, and I love it. Now we know that his (Nasa’s) weirdness runs in the family.
I wish that episode eight was a little longer, in large part due to how the episode ended with Nasa’s father thanking Tsukasa for saving his son and for choosing to marry him. Although ending the episode on that note was also a nice touch because despite the nervousness Nasa’s parents felt meeting their son’s wife for the first time — which added to the overall feeling this anime is going for as a comedy. The ending managed to bring a holistic and sentimental side contrasting the episode’s comedic feel to bring you a pleasant and warm feeling.

I would have loved to see more of Nasa’s father’s conversation with Tsukasa if anything more was said between the two, beyond what I just mentioned. I love those types of emotional moments, moments that pull at your heart-strings. Those are the moments I enjoy the most. That being said, I also don’t have any issues with not showing the conversation; simply because of how everything flowed into one another. It felt almost as if you were playing one of those games where your choices mattered and dictated what decisions you’d see next. I quite liked that.

The length of the episode also, in my opinion, worked against it because Tsukasa’s and Nasa’s trip felt rushed. All the sights they saw came and went within the blink of an eye, and that was something I didn’t enjoy. I would have loved it if they spent more than just one day in Nara and took the time to explore the historical sites etc. I think it would have made for better character/relationship building between our two characters.

Despite that, however, I still immensely enjoyed the episode!

Episode 9

THESE TWO ARE SO CUTE. It’s driving me crazy to the point where I do not know what to do with myself. Tsukasa and Nasa’s love and admiration towards each other is something out of a fantasy, which is what anime is at its heart. The ability to create a couple that anyone can and will always ship and love at the same time, appeals to every anime lover who enjoys shipping characters. This episode has cemented my love for Tonikaku Kawaii, and I’ll be adding it to my favourites once I finish watching.

Anyway, going back to the episode, we experienced more of what newlywed couples go through, more or less anyway. As we know by now, Tsukasa and Nasa’s wedding is not your typical wedding, and the circumstances that led to it are out of this world. Such things like buying clothes and doing laundry for each other isn’t something they’ve experienced until now. They also haven’t yet experienced any of the ‘adult’ experiences like seeing each other in their undergarments, something Nasa asks to see at the end of the episode, all embarrassed and such.

To be completely honest here, I didn’t pay much attention to everything else that happened before they decided to go shopping. Both Tsukasa and Nasa were too cute of a couple; that was all I thought while watching the episode. Seeing them experience several ‘firsts’ together while also being embarrassed at the same time made me smile. My favourite part of the episode was the blushies on Tsukasa’s and Nasa’s faces whenever their partner said something that flustered them.

Without a doubt, they’re probably one of the cutest couples I’ve ever seen in an anime, in large part because everything about them feels so genuine, I love it.
