Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Raihousha-hen | Episode 12 and 13

Episode 12
I think episode twelve is actually the worst episode I’ve seen within the scope of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Raihousha-hen. Where literally nothing happens and is yet another *clap* *clap* setup episode *clap* *clap*. Ah yes, a filler episode, you got to love them! Sike! I’m really starting to grow tired of episodes like these, I am not too sure why Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Raihousha-hen has had so many of these uneventful, uninformative, and useless episodes. It feels like half of this anime has been filled with them and it’s really irking me. It bothers me even more than the ‘usual viewer because I outright loved the first season and I wanted the second season of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei to be good, but I am getting the exact opposite.

The Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei series has fallen into the trap. Creating an above-average first season, only to follow up with an extremely below-average sequel. Too many great anime fall into that trap and unfortunately, Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Raihousha-hen is the product of such. At least we know that the final episode will hopefully be a good one
**as of writing this part of the blog, I haven’t yet seen the last episode**
Episode 13
Episode thirteen, by definition is an utter disappointment of a final episode. I’ve never felt so dissatisfied during an episode than this one. The action sequence lasted probably 30 seconds as our god, Tatsuya and goddess Miyuki handle the terrorist group with ease. I guess episode thirteen was to showcase power Tatsuya has within him. Episode thirteen was the best representation of that, as we’ve known for the longest time, Tatsuya’s Regrowth only applied to living things — so we thought. Just when you thought that Tatsuya’s ‘God wielding’ powers couldn’t get even stronger, they do. This episode we watch as Tatsuya taps into his ‘God mode’ activating Regrowth to restore this massive tower to the state it was in 24 hours ago. The sequence leading up to the activation of ‘Regrowth’ felt like something out of DBZ. Took a long time to charge up (because he had to gather the towers data), but once the data was collected the blast that was omitted by Tatsuya’s caster was one to watch.
I’ll give the animators props on this one because the whole activation and initialization of Tatsuya’s Regrowth was pretty epic and jaw-dropping. There will not be a better animated magical sequence than the one animated in episode thirteen. But otherwise, animation aside, episode thirteen didn’t even feel like a proper ending episode.
It felt incomplete and an utter waste. You’re meant to tell me that Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei: Raihousha-hen will end with Tatsuya restoring a building that the terrorists, who were made to seem extremely evil, had rigged to crumble; only for them to put up no fight whatsoever? While episode thirteen can be interpreted as the studio’s way to indicate that there is more to the story and that this episode is signaling it’s continuation. But man, I need less of these ‘setup’ episodes, which is what episode thirteen is for me. I deem episode thirteen as a setup episode with a poor end and action sequence, I am honestly quite disappointed.
