Non Non Biyori Nonstop | Episode 12 Review

Episode Twelve Thoughts

A little bit of bittersweet for me because one of my favourite series has approached it’s end. Interestingly enough however, I did not find this episode to be all that great. The reason why I didn’t find the last episode of the anime to be satisfactory was because it didn’t feel like enough was happening even though there were multiple things that happened during the episode.

It’s now spring in the world of Non Non Biyori and as customary with all anime where school is often the main setting of the anime. The cherry blossoms have bloomed which means the start of a new school semester. Episode twelve to me was an episode where we saw everyone, supporting and main cast, progress to a new stage in their fictional lives. We saw Suguru at his new high school. We saw Akane who was once scared of interacting with people at the start of the anime, now by the end of the anime, being able to make friends freely and without fear. We see Konomi getting ready for her first year of university, and finally we have all our main characters move up a grade. With a new introduction to the group being shown as well, in the form of Shiori.

Episode twelve felt like a conclusion, but it also felt open-ended leaving room for another season should they decide to do another one. One of the many benefits of your generic Slice of Life, Comedy anime is that multiple seasons can be made out of it simply because the anime it reliant on its characters and their experiences. Pretty much anything can happen, and it could probably fit the anime; and the best thing about it all is that it can be extremely simple. The best part of Slice of Life, Comedy anime is exactly that, it’s that it’s simple; and I find enormous amounts of entertainment in the simple funny interactions between characters.

All that being said, it felt like episode twelve was missing something to it. It just didn’t sit well with me, it’s probably because I thought there was going to be something more. I won’t hold the lackluster episode against Non Non Biyori Nonstop because I loved the anime as a whole.
