Non Non Biyori Nonstop | Anime Review

Non Non Biyori Nonstop is everything I thought it would be, a simple Slice of Life. Come to think of it, Non Non Biyori as a whole series is the embodiment of what a Slice of Life should be. If you’re someone who had seen the previous two seasons but still haven’t yet started on Non Non Biyori Nonstop. Then one, what are you doing? And two, you won’t be disappointed. Season three is a continuation of all the fun times experienced in seasons one and two. We have the same characters and the general gist of the anime itself is and will always be the same. Which is important for any SoL anime. Having that continuity, with the characters and knowing what each episode is basically going to be about, is as always nice to have.

Non Non Biyori Nonstop doesn’t venture out of its comfort zone. The anime focuses on what it’s best known for, being episodic and the hard carry of its characters. Something that I think is true for all Slice of Life/Comedy anime is that if your characters are not strong if they do not offer that variety with regards to personality and experiences; then the anime will almost always flop. However, if you put in too many characters with contrasting personalities then regardless of how you work the episodes the anime won’t feel entertaining. It’s this fine balance that Non Non Biyori masters and is why I think the series as a whole is one of the best Slice of Life anime series.

Non Non Biyori Nonstop is simple yet genuine. With Renge as the star attraction. You already know you’re going to have an entertaining time, with a character like Renge carrying each episode along. You cannot underestimate the impact she has on each episode. Regardless of whatever screen time, she’s given, her character is bound to make the most of it.

I wish the same could have been said for all the other characters. None of the other remaining characters apart from Natsumi really appealed to me. I mean there was Shiori, but we only saw her every once in a while and when we did see her it was only for a few minutes at most. Other than Shiori and Renge’s conversations, which I thought were funny as heck, the only real substance that kept me laughing and truly entertained was when Renge and Natsumi were in their own little world. Natsumi is the embodiment of what everyone is at heart. While we all may look mature and we all may be older individuals, internally, we’re all still a kid at heart. That’s why I liked Natsumi as much as Renge because of how she held herself. Always carefree, always wanting to play and didn’t really care much for school. If you’re like me and have seen all the previous seasons I’m sure this could be something that you too can relate to.

Will there be another season? Probably. Given that every anime at the moment feels they are getting additional seasons; some less deserving than others. However, in my heart of hearts, do I believe that Non Non Biyori should get another season? My answer to you would be no. Slice of life anime are typically gold mines for additional seasons simply because you’re able to create new content more quickly. But there comes to a point where there’s only so far you can go before it becomes too bland, stale and overused. An example of this would be Sword Art Online and every season it’s had since like 2012. Obviously two different styles of anime, polar opposites and not even in the same genre, but you get the idea. So much as I love and adore the Non Non Biyori Series (should another season/multiple seasons be made) I do not want there to be a point where I’ve become tired of watching the same thing over and over again. I want the enjoyment I’ve experienced over its three seasons, specials and moves to stay isolated and contained those three seasons, OVAs and movies; and that’s why I do not want there to be another season.

Season three of Non Non Biyori is everything I had hoped it would be, a continuation of the lighthearted humour and characters that you’ll always find some sort of enjoyment in. A simple concept that the series has mastered. How could something so simple be so entertaining? Maybe it’s because I’m a simpleton and have a bias towards this anime, which is probably the case. All that aside, I am even happier that I was able to keep up and finish an anime on time. Usually, I lag behind and finish an anime one or two weeks after it had already finished, so to keep up with it all the way is a big accomplishment for me.

Non Non Biyori Nonstop is a great anime, Non Non Biyori is a great series. It’s definitely something I’d watch again whenever I get bored, that’s for sure.
