Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? | Episode 11 and 12 Review

Episode eleven and twelve thoughts
Overall, I thought the last two episodes were a mixed bag. First, you had one episode (episode eleven) that was pretty boring, then you had the other that was a lot more entertaining. But to what extent? I’ll explain later. Anyway, since this is the second to last blog post for the anime, I am confident that this will be the shortest blog I’ve written in quite a while. As I watched and gave my thoughts about each episode, I found myself writing less and less because there was only so much I could talk about with each episode is essentially the same in scope. All that being said, allow me to share what I thought about the final two episodes of Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?.
Maybe it was because I was so ready to have this anime over and done with that I didn’t really pay attention to either episode. Although to be completely honest, I didn’t really know what episode eleven was about, to me, it lacked a defined purpose which is weird to say because each episode has had one. Do not get me wrong, Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? has always been an odd anime for me; however, episode eleven took it to a new level of weirdness. In large part, because we saw them doubling down on Machio being a ‘muscle god,’ which by itself is pretty weird, then you have Jason and Kutarou Deire literally spying on Hibiki and company for whatever reason. Which is even more bizarre. Especially when you find out that their motivations for spying on them, Jason’s motivation was for Machio to gain a following, while Kutarou’s was for profit.
On the other hand, Episode twelve was a lot more entertaining because it was Hibiki, Akemi, Gina, Ayaka, etc., enjoying themselves with a little vacation on an island planned by the Silverman Gym. However, it wasn’t much more than that. Episode twelve keeps with the theme of working out, as many of the events were planned around strength and exercise. However, apart from what’s considered the ‘norm’ of Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? We didn’t drift away from that. We stayed right on course until the very end, which made for a very lacklustre finish to a very average anime.
