Bokutachi no Remake | Episode 5 Review

Ah yes. Another school festival scene. I feel like I’ve seen at least 10 different variations over the past few months, and to be completely honest, I’m starting to grow tired of watching it. Luckily for me, there wasn’t much of that being shown throughout the episode, which is a plus.

Anyway, what did I think about episode five? Apart from the school festival, which I thought was pretty dull and not significant to the story. To me, I thought episode five was about who do you ship? Shinoaki and Kyouya, or Nanako and Kyouya.

I must say, while I do ship Shinoaki and Kyouya, I also do love Nanako and Kyouya because there’s a level of trust between the two. So at the moment, I feel very conflicted. I feel so bad for Nanako. Kyouya builds this relationship from the ground up. He believes in Nanako when she doubts herself and helped her face her fears when she felt like running away from them. Kyouya, up until this point, has been Nanako’s rock, so when she sees Shinoaki kiss Kyouya, I couldn’t help but feel so bad for her. In fact, a part of me felt a little betrayed. It’ll be interesting to see what comes from this. I’m sure it’ll be very spicy. However, my hope is that they clear up everything because I do not want them to stop being friends.

Bokutachi no Remake has been exceptional regarding character development. Over the five episodes, you see the relationships between Shinoaki and Kyouya, Nanako, and build over time. I’m now at the point where I love these two (Nanako and Shinoaki). I feel emotionally connected to them. Seeing anything that hurts them in any way also hurts me because I’m emotionally invested in these characters. I was hyped up when Shinoaki started making her advances; however, I was heartbroken when Nanako watched as Shinoaki stole a kiss from Kyouya. In terms of overall character development, I think Nanako’s character has come the furthest because we start off with a person with many self-doubts and someone who didn’t feel like she was always giving 100%. However, with the help of the people around her, including Kyouya, she overcame her insecurities and blossomed on stage today. This, again, is the reason why I am heartbroken for Nanako. Even more so now because she was also holding two crapes for herself and Kyouya. MY HEART, IT DOESN’T KNOW WHAT TO THINK.

Episode five was a rollercoaster of emotions. I wonder what will happen next.
