Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki | Episode 7 and 8 Review

Is it me or does it feel like Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki is slowly paced? Either that or there isn’t really much happening which also does seem like the case. I’ve now completed eight out of a possible thirteen episodes and it really does seem as though we haven’t accomplished much.

Every episode up until this point has been about Kazuya fixing a country that has been shambles. However, we do not see his changes, we just have to assume that they’re working as intended. That part is frustrating because if you’re someone (me) who would like to see the progress as part of the episode then it does get to be a little irritating.

While on the topic of visually not seeing any progress, we have Kazuya having to explain and talk constantly to make up for the lack there of visuals. I’ve now reach the point where it’s starting to get a little boring. While Kazuya is a character I like because he employs real world thought and knowledge to a fantasy world. It definitely feels like he’s doing a lot of the heavy lifting to make the anime remotely entertaining. All the other characters haven’t really offered anything of value apart from Liscia. But even then, Liscia feels like she’s there for the purposes of a love line, which I will admit hasn’t really amassed to anything.

Not sure why this has been the case with a lot of the anime I’ve watched over the Summer 2021 season. Everything I’ve watched has been all chatter with very little happening and it is extremely frustrating. My hope for the remaining episodes is that there will be some sort of confrontation that Kazuya will not be able to avoid. Up until this point he’s felt like a better version of Kyouya of Bokutachi no Remake, in that Kazuya tries his best to preempt before something happens and his outlook is a lot more realistic even though he’s in a fantasy world. While Kyouya is that happy go-lucky “I will always find a way to fix it”. They both share the same mentality of course, it’s just that the character in the fantasy world is doing a better job than the character in a real world setting.

I want to see the three dukedoms confront Kazuya, I want to see some tussle. I want to see the Demon Lord’s Domain declare war against everyone. I need something to spice things up because as each episode progressed it has gotten more and more conversation based. I need less problem solving and more action. The rebuilding of a country can only go so far in terms of entertainment. If the remaining few episodes are just like the previous eight, then man, I’m in for a very long ride. 6/10, C.
