This “One Week War” is definitely a serious let down, I will be completely honest here. The dukes didn’t even put up a worthy fight and that is what bothers me the most. They Duke Carmine and Duke Vargas declare war only for them to fall so quickly and without trouble. I guess the whole point of the war was to test the resolve of the King, Kazuya Souma. Or something along those lines.
Furthermore, I expected something epic out of Gaius Amidonia. Something that has been lacking throughout this series is an antagonist that can stand toe-to-toe with Souma. Someone who could challenge everything he has done, someone who would have forced Souma to be at his best until the very end. Unfortunately, we didn’t get that out of Gaius Amidonia. Which is a shame honestly. Instead we got someone who had a very strong exterior, and was able to talk a good talk, he was unable to walk the walk and was trounced easily. Souma’s plot armor is too strong no one can penetrate, unless you’re part of his harem. But otherwise, it’s as thick as can be.
These fight scenes were pretty bad, I’m not going to lie. It didn’t even feel like a war was going on. Not sure why some anime I’ve seen this season has had terrible fight sequences and it’s a real shame. What’s even more crazy is that a Slice of Life (Kobayashi-san) has had better fight scenes and animation than what was shown during episodes eleven and twelve. Anyway, since Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki is essentially at its end, I decided it would be worthwhile to take a look at the manga and see how this war was supposed to play out.
I won’t be spoiling anything, just in case you want to go through it yourself. However, what I will say is that I’m even more disappointed with the anime and how this arc in particular played out. There were several things part of the war that were not animated. Parts that I think would have benefited the arc and would have added another element to the anime were not added and to me that’s a real shame. I understand that there has to be a compromise, there are deadlines that have to be met and there’s only a limited amount of time to make this work. But preferably, in my opinion, parts that are in an arc should be animated, I mean it’s there for a reason.
But anyway, yeah. Overall these past two episodes weren’t great, I do not think they’re even satisfactory. It also doesn’t help that the actions scenes in the manga are drastically different to what we see in the anime. Like, it didn’t feel they (the studio) tried to make things look similar. It’s two different action scenes and that bothers me.
