86 2nd Season | Episode Eight: Morpho.

After what seemed to be a very long wait, we finally got to see Morpho. The ultimate weapon of the Legion, the very purpose of this war is to take down the Morpho.

I will admit, everything about episode eight felt very underwhelming. I expected something crazy. Yeah, Morpho looked pretty epic, this massive Legion robot being larger than the rest and a lot more powerful than anything we’ve seen so far in this series. I can see why all the human countries feared this Morpho. We already knew that the Legion have the numbers to level and overrun countries, but to have one singular weapon that can do the work of hundreds of Legion robots is pretty epic.

What I did find interesting about Morpho was that this mega weapon of the Legion, is Frederica’s knight, Kiriya. What’s even more interesting is Kiriya’s fixation on Shin. Although Morpho and Shin haven’t met before, they’re connected and they both share the goal of wanting to kill each other. I don’t know what’s up with the Nouzen clan, however, they all have this urge to kill each other. Why? I don’t know. However, I’m sure the Nouzen clan has it’s own backstory that is told in the Light novels and in that respect, I’m kind of disappointed that we won’t be seeing that in the anime (well atleast this season). Having an episode dedicated to the Nouzen clan would be very interesting.

Anyway, despite Kiriya’s urge to want to defy orders from whoever is controlling the Legion, his human side is still very much present because you see a flashback to him being alongside Frederica. So in a way episode eight is a tale of two sides. Despite being a Legion weapon, Kiri still carries a hatred for the human race and for the people who took everything away from Frederica. So in a way, Kiriya is still Frederica’s knight, just in a different form. Then we have Shin, who hates the Legions because they killed all his friends and family and left him with nothing. So it’ll be interesting to see the role Frederica plays because she’s an influential figure on both Kiriya and Shin for better and for worse.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to yet another two week wait for another episode. The biggest drawback of the 86 2nd Season has to be the production issues that it is currently facing. It definitely puts a dampener on things, but it is what it is.
