Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi | Episode Nine: The one Beach Episode.

When in doubt, have a beach episode. No Comedy, Romance, Slice of Life anime is complete without at least one beach scene which you know will only cater to the fan service side of our characters. Despite it being a fan service episode, the fan service was minimal and you know what? That’s something I actually liked. When there was fan service, the characters were making light of the situation more often than not. Which quickly pulled the attention away from whatever “plot” was going on.

Oddly enough, I thought episode nine was a little too fast. It seemed as though everything was going at lightning speed which made it hard for me to enjoy what was happening. That was something I didn’t like, we jump from the beach to the hotel to the beach again, and finally, to the train ride home. All within the span of twenty-three minutes. As a viewer, I like enjoying the time, so the constant jumping wasn’t something I particularly enjoyed.

Apart from what seemed to be a very fast-paced episode, one thing I did enjoy was that everything about the episode was very friend-orientated. It was an episode where six of our characters had fun doing various activities for a couple of days. What is there not to like about that?

Another thing that I enjoyed about the episode was the characters acknowledged the other characters ‘closeness’ and teased them about it. For example, Takeda and Natsumi mentioned how close Sakurai was with Kazama. Seeing her and Kazama blush was insanely adorable and I’m not saying that because I ship the two hardcore, but their reactions were pretty funny from an entertainment standpoint. The same can be said about Igarashi and Takeda, however, as we know by now, this more so affects Igarashi than Takeda.

Episode nine was another feel-good episode and that was something I did enjoy. To me, Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi has been an anime where the source of its entertainment value comes from the connection between characters, and I think episode nine best represents that.
