Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki 2nd Season | Episode Two: Boring Politics

Similar to episode one, episode two is just a bunch of talking. Politics and anime do not go well together and the second episode of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki 2nd Season has proven this to be true.

Now I won’t bash the anime just yet because I believe the reason why we’ve had such chatty episodes is that they’re trying to set the stage for what is to come in the later episodes. It’s important to establish the specifics so that it doesn’t feel as though the later episodes are happening without reason, and that’s fine. However, as a viewer, I think the biggest issue right now is that the second season of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki hasn’t had anything that would pull you in, it’s missing the ‘wow’ factor. Unless there was something about the first season that hooked you, someone who has kept up with the Light Novel the anime is adapted from, or someone who feels like since they’ve watched the first season that they much watch the sequel; I don’t think there has been anything worthwhile so far.

It also doesn’t help that in both episodes the majority of the chatter was done in two locations. During the first episode, everything was done in the throne room, while in the second episode, all the chatter was done at a table. To top it all off, the majority of the chatter was primarily between Souma and Jeanne Euphoria. Which in itself was pretty bland, what’s the point of having other characters in the scene if they’re just going to stand there and watch? I don’t see a point in that. For example, I am pretty sure that Liscia throughout both episodes only stalk for maybe five minutes total but spent the majority of her time in the background staring blankly into the distance while Souma and Jeanne talked.

In short, was episode two a good episode? No, I do not think so. To be completely honest, I think that the second season of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki has gotten off to a really bad start and that’s extremely disappointing.

I am with you. This was an entire episode of sitting and talking and a lot of what they are talking about wasn’t particularly interesting. Time for this anime to bring something interesting in the third episode or it may be time to say goodbye to this sequel.
