Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic | Episode One: Yes.

I am genuinely excited. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic has been the anime I’ve been looking forward to watching the most. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to many of my longtime readers because the Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai series (more commonly known as ‘Love is War’). Has been an anime I’ve loved since the start. I love the series so much that I later went on to read the manga (something I am fully up to date with now). So it should come as no surprise that the third installment to the series has been something I’ve longed for.

So what did I think about the first episode, well for starters. I missed the narrator (Aoyama, Yutaka), his dramatic voice making everything feel a lot more intense has been something I needed in my life for a long time. Furthermore, the return of all our characters and their quirks was something I also missed. But this is all coming from a person who has an extreme bias towards the series as a whole. I don’t expect much of this series review to be all that objective.

While I thought the episode was great from an entertainment standpoint, I think the biggest issue I had about the first episode was that it all felt a little too fast paced. Almost as if we were blitzing through the all the various chapters being adapted for this one episode. I don’t know why I felt this way, but it really did seem as though the studio was trying to cram as much possible into the first episode and for no good reason.

Don’t get me wrong, did this negatively affect the episode as a result? I don’t think so. I mean if you’re familiar with the Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai series, then you know that each episode is bound to be a little chaotic and hectic at times. What do you expect when you have five people, all with different personalities in a room at the same time. Craziness is about to happen. But when you have a rushed craziness, something about that makes me feel a little overwhelmed to the point where I’m not sure whether or not it’ll be something I’ll end up enjoying.

But nonetheless, I’m very happy with the first episode of Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Ultra Romantic. Hopefully what I think will get animated, does get animated because I don’t want to wait for another season. Heck, they should make a series that’s longer than the usual twelve to thirteen episodes. I think it would work to the benefit of Love is War because it’s episodic, I don’t think it’ll do any harm. Anyway, I’m definitely looking forward to what comes next
