Aharen-san wa Hakarenai | First Impressions

My first impressions of Aharen-san wa Hakarenai was great. Which is something I didn’t really expect from an anime that feels very random. Let me tell you about it.

When you think ‘random’ you think Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, that’s the first thing that comes to mind. To me, that’s one of its biggest appealing factors, you don’t really know what you’re going to get. Furthermore, it’s also an anime that is very much laid back (which is something I love about these types of anime).

I think what makes Aharen-san wa Hakarenai so good is that the comedy isn’t something that feels forced. Everything about the show has a natural flow, which also helps when you have two characters who have that natural chemistry together. Both Reina Aharen and Matsuboshi Raidou work extremely well together. As the anime revolves around their quirkiness, each episode to date has been very entertaining. I especially liked how chill each episode has felt.

The Spring 2022 season has multiple anime where it takes place in a high school setting, involving high schoolers. But what differentiates Aharen-san wa Hakarenai from the rest is like I mentioned, each episode has been relatively chill and relaxed. Our characters aren’t flamboyant or do things that are over the top, they’re not yelling at the top of their lungs and they don’t offer hyper exaggerated fascial expressions. Aharen-san and Raidou-kun are far from those things and that is something I personally find myself enjoying quite a bit.

In a way, I guess you can say it’s a break from the ‘norm’ because this anime isn’t like the others it shares a resemblance with this Spring 2022 season.

Overall, I’d say my first impression of Aharen-san wa Hakarenai was great. But then again, these types of anime have always been ones I’ve enjoyed so there is some element of bias here. I consider this anime to be a ‘pallet cleanser’ because it feels like a show you’d watch if you want something toned back, chill and has a fair bit of comedy. Which is something I always welcome.

I’m looking forward to what this anime has in store.
