Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san | Episode Four: A Supporting cast episode.

Episode four of Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san was a supporting cast episode, and that was something I did enjoy most.

The one thing I thought Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san had lacked so far was the involvement of the supporting cast. While I understand that the anime revolves around Shikimori-san and Izumi-kun, the two them alone are not interesting enough to carry the anime to the finish line. There is only so far you can go with two characters who are madly in love with one another and I thought as though we were reaching the end of that.

Luckily, as the title suggests, episode four was more about the supporting cast (a welcome change). However, the impact they had on this episode wasn’t one I liked. Despite seeing a glimpse into the past of what Kyou Nekozaki had thought about Shikimori-san when they first met and their first impressions of each other.

Other than that, the supporting cast more or else was there to prop up the ongoing relationship of our two main characters and to me, that was kind of meh. I didn’t expect much from going into this anime, so episode four and its mediocracy fell inline with how the anime has felt for me as of late.

To me, despite being only four episodes in. I think that Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san will turn out to be one of those anime that will fall into the the ‘C to C-‘ tier for anime. Maybe it has something to do with the style of the show. MAL classifies Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san as a comedy, however, there hasn’t been anything worth considering as a comedic segment or what have you. Personally, I see this anime more as a romance-comedy.

In that regard, the anime still fall well short of the mark. The romance itself isn’t all too great because we’re very much watching a relationship in the ‘honeymoon’ phase. Everything is all lovey-dovey and that’s great and all but you can only go so far with a two individuals showing their affection and admiration towards each other every episode. For me honestly, it feels as though we’re getting to that point already and I am only four episodes to the series. Maybe the next few will knock my socks off, who knows?
