ANOTHER ONE. Ah yes, episode seven of Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san (as well as episode eight whenever that airs) covers a school festival. As you’d expect with any school festival, it’ll always be significant to the anime because that’s where the heartfelt moments are made. In Kawaii dake ja Nai Shikimori-san‘s case, the festival was where Shikimori-san and Izumi-kun became a couple.
I’ll be honest, I thought it was both cute but a little cliche. I mean when you have two individuals who have fallen head over heels for one another, even prior to them becoming a couple, takes away from the overall experience. What I mean by that is, since both Shikimori-san and Izumi-kun had already liked each other beforehand. I think we miss out on friendship that could have turned into an eventual relationship. But that’s just me.
Looking back on the episode, I do think that there could have been more that happened during those twenty-three minutes. I’ll be honest, that flashback to a time when Shikimori-san and Izumi-kun was nice and all but it was all pretty basic stuff. There wasn’t anything that knocked our socks off nor did it provide information that we didn’t already know. If anything not much of anything happened during that flashback because our two characters were too lover struck to do anything. That was the biggest negative for me.
As the episodes go on, it has felt like we’ve only seen, heard and experienced why Izumi-kun adores Shikimori-san but the same cannot be said for his partner. You can argue that we have indeed seen and head why Shikimori-san adores Izumi, but it hasn’t been shown off to the same extent. I think with this school festival arc, we’ll be hearing a more heartfelt answer from Shikimori as to why she likes Izumi. But I could also be wrong.
Considering that Shikimori has spent the whole episode looking for the person who shared the same number as Izumi, I doubt we’ll be getting what I hoped. Instead, I think we’ll see her confront the person who has the number, which is someone we see at the end of the episode and I hope that this encounter proves to be entertaining.
