Aharen-san wa Hakarenai | Episode Ten: Confession?

I guess episode ten of Aharen-san wa Hakarenai was the confession episode? I’ll be honest while I did expect something along those lines to happen, for some reason it felt like a spur of the moment sort of deal. But at the same time, with how Aharen-san has clung into Raidou-kun throughout the series, it shouldn’t have come as a surprise. But nonetheless, a confession certainly wasn’t on the cars for me.

I’ve always viewed Aharen-san wa Hakarenai as a high school comedy than I did a romcom because let’s be honest here, there hasn’t been much of the romance side of things. It only started to popping up over the past few episodes. Like I mentioned, I did expect a confession to happen, I just didn’t think that it was on the cards right now. Allow me to tell you why.

Build up. I can go on and on about it. I can speak for days on how the one the biggest factor when it comes to confessions nowadays is that there isn’t a sufficient build up to it. Have there been exceptions to this? Of course, but typically those kinds of anime are the ones that come with high expectations. Generally speaking, those types are anime are the ones that people consider to be one of the best to air for a particular season or year.

In Aharen-san wa Hakarenai case, was there a build up? Yes. You could tell from the start that something like this was eventually going to happen. You could also tell by how Aharen-san acted that there was going to be more down the line. However, as I mentioned in one of my previous blogs, the dynamic between Raidou-kun and Aharen-san has always felt like a friendship. Two best friends. It never genuinely felt like a mutual relationship would happen.

For me, when you build up a dynamic on the basis of them being the best of friends. Where every interaction between them being generally very comedic and entertaining. To then suddenly change this, flip it on its head, twirl it around and repackage it as something new. Something that could result in a mutual relationship, feels very random.

Maybe it isn’t something I’m used to yet. Like I said, the dynamic between Raidou-kun and Aharen-san always be that of two best friends. So while the confession was a very heartfelt and adorable because let’s be real, Aharen-san is a very cute individual. It just felt a little out of place for me, ’tis all!
