SAO: Alicization – WoU Part 2 | Frustrating couple of episodes.

Alright so, I’m actually very frustrated with Sword Art Online: Alicization – War of Underworld Part 2, let me tell you about it.

First issue.

I’ll be honest, this war has been pretty terrible. You don’t really know what’s going on because there are so many different backstories so many different subplots that they’re trying to to include in three episodes (three through five) that you don’t really know what’s going on.

For example, I thought this war was about Vector going after Alice. Then somehow some way, through these three episodes alone, they bring in someone from SAO a member of the Laughing Coffin. A member from the murderous group who went around killing hundreds of people in SAO (causing them to die in real life). Like, somehow they’ve managed to include a murderer as the many antagonist of this war.

All he’s done is go around killing all the Japanese players because he’s obsessed with them and in particular Kirito, who is Japanese. This dude’s hate for Kirito has spurred a hate in all the Japanese players. Now in this Underworld, he can go about killing as many Japanese players as possible because he was stopped in SAO by Kirito. This is some pretty fucked up shit if you ask me. Obviously, if he kills them in-game they won’t actually die in real life, but still. The fact that he’s only in the Underworld is for his desire to kill is pretty messed up.

That has been one of the many issues I’ve had so far.

Second issue.

The second problem I have is that we’ve simply pushed aside the whole, protecting those who inhabit the Underworld and defeating the Dark Territories. Why did we push this by the wayside?

You cannot tell me that we previously built up the Underworld, a whole backstory behind everything in the previous season only to just push it aside and say “Hey, this Laughing Coffin guy will now take priority”. To me that doesn’t make any sense because then it makes the previous season worthless if it’s not something that is expanded upon. What about Vector? What about the invasion of the Underworld that we were watching up until this Laughing Coffin guy jumped in? What about Alice?

You cannot spend a whole season building his up and not do anything with it because you want to go in another direction with the story.

I guess it really isn’t the anime’s fault because Sword Art Online is at the end of the day, an adaptation. But nonetheless, this whole “War of Underworld” arc hasn’t been something I’ve enjoyed all too much.

I say this because now this War of the Underworld now involves other players from previous MMOs because this Laughing Coffin guy wants an army just to kill Japanese players. it’s literally a 1v100 in the sense that this Laughing Coffin guy is wrecking everyone because his lust to kill Japanese players is too great and his obsession with killing Kirito is too strong.

Hopefully all this nonesense gets righted in the latter stages because for all that it is, episode three, four and five hasn’t been great episodes.
