Tsurekano | Episode One: Interesting

I’ll be honest, Tsurekano or Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta is giving me serious kissXsis vibes, obviously not to the same extreme that kissXsis was, but there are some similarities. For example, a comparison that you can make is that in both anime, they’re stepsiblings. (The most obvious one, I know).

They (Mizuto and Yume) have to act the part at school, but at home, all bets are off (from what I can tell anyway). Especially since they Mizuto and Yume have that rule where if either one of them act in an ‘unnatural’ stepsibling manner that the loser would have to call the latter the older sibling. I’ll be honest, that rule in itself is pretty dumb especially if they’re going to be breaking it every once and awhile because after all. Mizuto and Yume are ex-lovers forced to live together because their parents are married to one another.

Personally, I thought the premise was different enough for me to give it a go. I mean, I don’t remember the last anime where two stepsiblings were previously ex-lovers. So in that regard, it’ll be interesting to see where the anime goes from here.

I’m sure it’ll be one of those things where as time goes on, the feelings that were once there slowly start to come up once again. To the point where something will have to be done about them. Anyone can see that coming from a mile away and episode one showed that off as they almost ended up kissing each other.

Despite the weirdness that is Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta, it seems as though there is enough personalities to both Mizuto and Yume to at least make the show interesting. As they are ex-lovers they know each other’s flaws but also strengths. Episode one showed our two characters poking fun at each other’s weaknesses. Things they hated about each other while they were dating. Their arguments though didn’t feel like boyfriend and girlfriend disagreements though, whenever they disagreed it did feel like a sibling squabble.

As is only right in the world of anime, there will be people who will find out that they were at one point lovers, so it’ll be interesting how that plays out once a select number of people do find out, if they find out. Everyone knows that you cannot hide something forever, especially when we’re talking about anime.

Overall, I’d say that the first episode of Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta was interesting. Where Mizuto and Yume proceed from this point on will be something to look forward to.
