Hataraku Maou-sama!! | Episodes Two and Three: Family?

I’ll be honest, I think the revised art style has been a little harder for me to stomach than originally expected. Compared to that of several years ago, season two (with regards to art style) is definitely a negative for me. For some reason they look at little too playful. But I’ll save that rant for the next blog, as per the title, today’s blog is about episodes two and three of Hataraku Maou-sama!!.

Normally, I always combine two episode posts because I have a hard time writing on just one episode alone. However in the case of Hataraku Maou-sama!!, episodes two and three were more or less episode 2A and 2B. Given that episode three was a continuation of episode two. I don’t really get why studios do that, I mean I get why. I just wish that sometimes in cases where one episode is a continuation of a previous episode, that they just air one longer than normal episode.

Anyway, episodes two and three gave more context as to the importance of Alas Ramus in the grand scheme of things. Which is good because I thought it was going to be one of those instances where the child is just there to progress a relationship (which I assume will still be the case, but with a twist). Alas’ origin story is still a mystery, all we know is that somehow it’s linked to Maou’s past which is something I do not think we would’ve gotten to see.

His backstory is kind of cool too, now that we got to see it. He was the lone survivor of a clan massacre that killed his parents. Only to be saved by an angel who nursed him back to health. I’m sure this angel knew what Maou would eventually turn out to be (eventual Demon King). However, why did this angel save him in the first place? Who knows. Maybe this angel saw the good within him, which is something we also saw on full display because the one Demon King, Maou, is now just a normal guy working at a fast food joint — being happy.

Now in episode three they mentioned a lot of things I didn’t quite get like why all of a sudden the angel Gabriel, wants the child. They mentioned something about Yesod, Malkuth as well as other names which I assume are all connected in one way or another. I will admit, I do not know what any of these things are but I googled it and they all seemed to be linked or relate to something religious. I could be wrong but I could also be right because we have the angel Gabriel and him mentioning heaven. So as someone who is as uneducated as it gets, that’s my assumption.

I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next because Gabriel here isn’t leaving without the child and Maou and Emi are not willing to give up the child or the sacred sword without a fight.
