Hataraku Maou-sama!! | Episode six and seven: Maou-san is back.

It took long enough. I never thought I’d see the day where we’d see the real Demon King. If you had told me that it would taken seven episodes just to get to that point. I’d tell you first hand that I would be a little disappointed. For what it’s worth, while it was something great to see, episodes six and seven of Hataraku Maou-sama!! were not great episodes.

What has bothered me most about Hataraku Maou-sama!! in particular has been how slow the series as a whole has felt. We’ve only now just gotten to the point where Maou-san was now able to tap into his powers to protect everyone and to exclaim that the “Demon King is alive and well”. It took seven episodes to get to that point and we don’t even know if Maou will be able to tap into those powers again, maybe it was just a one time thing. Which I think it is.

The reason why I think that this is the case because it looks as though his powers were briefly restored because of that sword. However, after he had expelled those monsters from the Human realm, Maou then immediately gave that very sword to Camio. Who then returned to the world that he came from. If Maou’s powers are directly linked to that sword (which I hope is isnt), then it’ll be a long time until we see this version of the Demon King.

Anyway, I hope that this is a sign to come. Let’s be real, I had unrealistically high expectations for Hataraku Maou-sama!!. I’m not the only one either, many others also believe that the anime as a whole has fallen well short of expectations. Personally, I don’t want episode seven to be just a one of thing. I also would like the story to speed up a little bit because right now I feel like I’m watching a Slice of Life. I am also starting to question the Alas Ramus character.

I understand the intent of her, which is to help develop relationships and what have you. However, at the start of the anime, they gave me reason to believe that Alas Ramus played an important role to the anime. Which seemed to be the case when Gabriel came after them in the earlier episode, but now, not so much. If this character is as important as the story suggests Alas Ramus then I expect the final few episodes to be something worth watching.
