Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! | I’ve read the manga!
Despite my incredible inconsistency to post a blog post, one thing I’ve been pretty good at as of late is reading manga and Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! just so happens to be one of them. Although I am a little late to the hype, personally I am excited to see it animated. The manga was very enjoyable and I hope the majority if not all the manga is adapted. But only time will tell.
Tomo Aizawa and Junichirou “Jun” Kubota are the tightest bros you would ever see. They roughhouse and spar, but through thick and thin, they have got each other’s back. Yet, there’s just one small problem: Tomo is in love with Jun!
Since she was young, tomboyish Tomo has been just another one of the guys; due to his extreme muscle-brained nature, Jun does not notice any of her advances—not even when she explicitly confesses. To add insult to injury, for the longest time, he did not even realize that she was a girl. Will Tomo ever be able to catch Jun’s eye and escape the infamous brozone?

First impression wise, the first episode was something I expected. However, what I thought was pretty cool about the first episode in particular was that the animation is spot on with the art in the manga. Take it as you will, but I thought that was great, especially because I think that the art and how close it is to its original source is very important to me.
Having already read the manga, I do expect this anime to be a good. I’ll be honest. However, I am now able to realize that expectation is what ruins anime for me so I won’t expect heaven and earth from the anime. I just hope that the characters are spot on and by all indications that seems to be the case which is nice.
I think that Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! will be a standout anime because it’s not everyday where you have a girl with boyish tendencies (Tomboy), as one of the main protagonists. I’ve always like Tomo for her strong willed attitude because it’s very fun watching her muscle her way through life, despite her yearning to be viewed as a person of the opposite gender by Jun.
Jun on the other hands is a non-starter for me because he feels more like he’ll be one of those ‘main characters’ who actually turns out to act more like character part of the supporting cast.
I think the anime will focus more on Tomo, Misuzu and Carol whenever she’s introduced. The three of them together is what I’m looking forward to because they have three different personalities and ways of thought. Seeing all that come together and co-habitat will be very interesting and I hope will turn out to be very entertaining too.

My first impressions were one of satisfaction. I’m satisfied with the introductory episode because it accomplished what every first episode should do. Which is introduce the main characters and the premise of the story. As the manga was episodic in nature, I assume that the anime itself will follow that kind of trend. Which I don’t mind because I think it’ll compliment the story well.
I hope that Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! will be able to cover the majority of the manga. I say this because the manga itself is relatively short despite it chapter being very long. With a manga that is episodic, you can cut out things here and there without ruining the wider story. So we’ll see what happens. Maybe that’s me expecting too much again, but hey, it is what it is.
