Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! | The pros and cons so far.

Why hello there, nice to see you all again. I am back with another Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! blog post, however, this time I wanted to talk about the characters among other things too, of course.

Our characters turned out as expected in my opinion. Personally, I love Misuzu Gundou, her manipulative nature is something I find very attractive about the character. The fact that she influences things to make it entertaining for her to watch from the sideline is very fun. I also think that Misuzu is probably the best designed character out of the bunch as well, just the way she looks. From how her hair almost always looks disheveled by in a neat and organized way; to how her eyes light up whenever she sees an opportunity to influence an outcome. The VA does an exceptional job, that is for certain.

That being said, it was quite the opposite for Carol. I thought that she would be portrayed as someone similar to Chika Fujiwara from Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai. Sort of like an airhead, but secretly pretty intelligent. However, from what has been shown over episodes two and three indicate that she will feel very robotic and I don’t know how I feel about that. Episode two was concerning for me because when I first heard Carol, I genuinely thought they (the studio) decided to throw lines into a text-to-speech bot and have that bot play the character. It’s because of this robotic feeling that also makes it seem as though Carol doesn’t have any emotion as well, I don’t know whether or not that’s intended.

Personally, I wouldn’t have gone that route if it was intentional. I thought Carol was more lively in the manga. When she was first introduced in the manga, she was almost like a bright star because of how different she was. Carol didn’t feel like a robot but alas, in the anime, she is by definition a robot and I don’t like that.

Tomo and Junichirou are not too interesting right now, I’ll be completely honest. They will get more interesting as we progress through the anime, but right now. As a duo, I think they’re rather weak currently. I’m only really here for Misuzu. But anyway, that’s enough of what I thought about the characters. Time to move on to something else…. pacing.

Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like the pace of which the anime is moving at is unusually fast. I say this because, yeah there’s only eight volumes to the manga, but each chapter is extremely long. I feel like they’re going to make an attempt at covering the whole manga in the span of thirteen episodes. Which I hope doesn’t happen because it doesn’t seem right, although I am only three episodes into the anime each episode has felt pretty empty.

Which again, is odd because each chapter of the manga was very long. It definitely felt like there was a lot more to each chapter than what meets the eye. You cannot have long chapters without there being cause for them. Maybe it could be one of those things where the studio had to pick and choose, I mean, as mentioned already, there’s only so much you can cram into a twenty minute episode; ands there’s only so much you can squeeze into thirteen episode.

My hope moving forward is that we don’t see a rush towards the end. I don’t feel like Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko! should cover the beginning through to the end of the manga, if they did decide to go that route. I think it’s unwise and I hope that won’t be the case.
