Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi | Too Calm, too generic.

I’ll be honest, I think I was going to enjoy Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi, however, I thought it was a little too calm and a little too predictable. What I mean by that is there were several times when they re-use the same reactions from the same characters each episode.

Being a slice of life, I believe that the repurposing of scenes and reactions is what makes any anime stale and uninteresting. In today’s blog, I’ll be sharing what I disliked about Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi.

Kind-hearted Himuro-kun is unfortunate: when in deep concentration, stressed, or flustered, he involuntarily creates blizzard conditions for himself and anyone in his vicinity. During one such incident on the first day of his new job, Himuro-kun encounters the beautiful Fuyutsuki-san, who helps him break out of his nerve-induced ice. As it turns out, Fuyutsuki-san is his new coworker.

At the office, the cool-headed Fuyutsuki-san offers simple and rational solutions to Himuro-kun’s icy dilemmas—everything from helping him garden without freezing his plants to ensuring he does not melt during their tropical work retreat. Every time Fuyutsuki-san does something kind for him, the tempest of emotions he experiences inside embarrassingly manifests on the outside.

As a result of the frequent snowstorms, Himuro-kun’s feelings for Fuyutsuki-san are impossible to hide. Even though Fuyutsuki-san is unfamiliar with love, Himuro-kun remains determined to repay her kindness and warm her heart in any way he can.

Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi, MyAnimeList

First off, I would like to mention, Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi is a very colourful anime. Like there are some very spectacular scenes, not to mention how the studio went about animating the eyes was pretty cool. I say this because they manage to make the eye contact scenes carry the most weight and emotion. They sparkle, which isn’t something you can say for the rest of the anime.

What makes Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi stand out? Apart from what I have already mentioned, there isn’t much to be completely honest. The main cast (Fuyutsuki-san and Himuro-kun) lack depth and the supporting cast were not as involved as they should have been.

When it comes so slice of life anime, you need to have everyone pulling their weight, you need every character contributing in order to make the anime itself worth while. However, when the supporting cast is barely there and do not contribute to the overall story. To the point where they feel like individuals drawn into the background to fill the scene, that’s when you know they (the supporting cast) isn’t strong enough.

Not only that, but the relationships between the supporting cast don’t really mature into anything. I mean, they hint at Saejima-kun and Komori-san liking each other, as well as, Otonashi-san and Katori-kun. But the problem is, none of that is really explored or expanded upon and as a slice of life anime; I think that is a missed opportunity.

In my opinion, especially for this style of anime, the supporting cast has to be as important as the main cast. They have the be complimentary, especially when the main cast do not offer anything of value. In that case, the supporting cast as to be even more involved in order to bring the anime home. Much of the anime is around Fuyutsuki-san and Himuro-kun but I always found myself getting a little annoyed with how boring they were as a pair. There were several times when I thought that the other pairings (Otonashi-san and Katori-kun or Saejima-kun and Komori-san) would have been better because they are a lot more colourful in terms of personality.

I wish the studio expanded more upon the supporting cast in the anime, as it would have benefited from it. Not to mention, the main Fuyutsuki-san and Himuro-kun were moving at a snails pace. There are only so many times that I can watch Himuro-kun wip up a blizzard because he’s fawning over how adorable Fuyutski-san is. The repurposing of that scene was extremely annoying. It felt as though I watched the same scene 50 times in one episode, every episode.

I am pretty sure that by the end of the anime, like me, the supporting cast was also tired of experiencing the same scene over and over again. That’s how boring and overused that blizzard scene was.

If I could go back in time, I would’ve made Fuyutsuki-san and Himuro-kun a tad more interesting. Whenever they were together, they were honestly very boring and uninteresting. I’ve never experienced a pairing as mediocre and mundane as this pairing. Fuyutsuki-san and Himuro-kun simply were not impactful enough to make the anime worth watching.

When you have unimpactful main characters, coupled with a supporting cast that doesn’t really support the main character of overall story. You get an anime that falls way short of expectation. In short, you get an anime that is uninteresting.

Overall, I’d say that Koori Zokusei Danshi to Cool na Douryou Joshi isn’t an anime worth watching.
