Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki 2nd Season picks up immediately where Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki left off. It is because of this, where the first episode literally feels like it was supposed to be part of season one, that makes me think that season one should have been longer. Anyway, now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, allow me to share my thoughts on the first episode of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki 2nd Season.
Strictly speaking, this scene is as close as you’ll get to the original source. So if you’re someone who is into that, you’ll be happy to know that episode one does go according to plan. However, could it have been better? Probably. While watching the episode I couldn’t help but think that something was missing. Something I will mention time and time again is that these chatty episodes are the ones I dislike the most and it just so happens that episode one was a very chatty episode.
Furthermore, I thought the episode itself was rather bland. Our characters were just standing around for the most part and for the most part, the episode took place in a throne room. Which is probably the most unattractive room to base the entire episode in. For me, that wasn’t something I liked all that much.
Episode one of the new season further cemented Souma as a person who knows his stuff. He’s a person from Modern Japan with the knowledge and history of his world in a fantasy setting. Souma spoke on the new found freedom felt by the people of the Principality of Amidonia while scolding Julius for his inability to understand that under the Amidonia Royal Family were oppressors was golden. Souma was hitting Julius hard in the jugular and taking him to school while being all casual about it. This was basically what the episode was about, Souma used the high ground for the entirety of the episode.
As the second season was basically announced upon the conclusion of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki. There are a few things that I will be expecting once the episodes start to roll out. The first being fewer ‘chatty’ episodes. Obviously, there is only so far you can go with that as they have to follow the original source, but I think it can definitely be handled better. The second is better-animated scenes. Anyone who watched the first season will agree with me on this one. The ‘one week war’ was the worst part of the first season, because it didn’t animate key scenes and all the actions sequences were outright terrible. It was like I was watching a slideshow and I dislike a bunch.
My hope is that the second season of Genjitsu Shugi Yuusha no Oukoku Saikenki will be better than the first. Cheers to hoping!
