Tsurekano | All Higashira.

Tsurekano | All Higashira.

Episodes seven and eight were okay episodes at best. I’ll be honest, the latter half of Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta has been disappointing because of how out of place and empty each episode has felt. If it wasn’t for Higashira, who has quite frankly been a breath of fresh air, then I don’t know if I would have enjoyed the episodes.

Higashira is a character I love because the way she acts and how she speaks is unorthodox. Higashira is that otaku friend that everyone wants but can never have. She’s like the perfect person to be around because she’s witty, has a sense of humor, and is very honest. Let’s be real who wouldn’t want to have a friend like that. On top of that, she seems to be very levelheaded. Which I think is her best quality because unlike Yume, Higashira seems to be very understanding of the situation around her despite being an otaku introvert.

I love the inclusion of Higashira because she’s the complete opposite of the current Yume, however, she also seems to be someone who is similar to Yume in the past. Which makes everything interesting. Mizuto has no problem being friends with Higashira because it’s implied that she reminds Mizuto of the old Yume. Which reminds him of all the things he liked about her then and outlines why that isn’t really the case now.

The inclusion of Higashira as a character offers an interesting twist to what has gotten to be a pretty dull story. Now that we have someone who gets along with Mizuto, maybe it’ll spice everything up. I say this because since Mizuto gets along better with Higashira, it has already rubbed Yume the wrong way because she’s furious by the special treatment Mizuto has given Higashira and not her (while they were dating).

I just find it weird that prior to this whole interaction, (during episode seven), all the previous episodes leading up to this point has been about getting Higashira to start dating Mizuto. Rather, having him fall for Higashira’s ‘feminine’ side, a side that she doesn’t want to show. I don’t know why Yume and Akatsuki decided that this was something they wanted to do. Moreover, I don’t get why Yume decided to participate in such an act, especially since she still likes Mizuto.

Maybe it’s one of those guilt things where Yume understands the Higashira offers Mizuto something he had lost, something that Yume decided not to be or provide anymore. So to make it up to him, she is doing something that will provide happiness to Mizuto at the expense of her.

Anyway, I’m half excited to see how the anime ends. We’ve experienced so many ups and downs, I don’t really know what to expect anymore.
