NOW THAT IS WHAT I CALL AN EPISODE. My goodness, talk about one way to make an entrance. The first episode of “Oshi no Ko” is a long one for sure, but adds so much information that it’s unreal. The storyline presents itself so nicely and the art compliments it so well. Like I do not know where to begin.

Like Gorou Amemiya dies and gets reincarnated as the child of the idol he adored as an adult. Only for him to witness the death of his ‘mother’. What always interested me about any story that involves reincarnation is how they handle the memories of the past life. In Gorou now Aqua, as you’d expect, he remember everything of his past life. Including meeting his soon to be mother before she gave birth.

What I thought was especially interesting was that he was able to draw a link between his own death and that of his mother. As it could have potentially been the same person. It’s just a matter of who gave this stalker information as to Ai’s whereabouts.

That is what captivates me about “Oshi no Ko” is that we have two characters who were reincarnated as Ai’s children. Two reincarnated characters in one anime is madness. Not to mention that in both their previous lives they had interacted with one another before and that they both shared the same love for Ai; prior to their reincarnation is extremely interesting.

Since both Aqua and Ruby kept the memories of their past lives, I wonder if we’ll see a slip of the tongue that would signal to the other twin that they too were a reincarnation. I think that would be very fun to watch.

It’s also cool to see how the death of their mother impacted them in different ways. Aqua is on the warpath, he is out for revenge, he wants to go after everyone who was responsible for the death of his mother. While Ruby who looked up to Ai in her new life but also in her past life, wants to become an idol like her mother. That’s how much of an inspiration Ai was to her.

In a weird way, “Oshi no Ko” reminds me of Erased.

I hope that we learn more about Ai though, because from the information that we’re given she was a young mother and given how gloomy the start of the episode was when we first saw her in the hospital. I couldn’t help but think that this pregnancy was forced upon her. As a young, upcoming and bright idol the last thing you want when you’re just starting your career is to have children. So I think that she had experienced something very traumatic. Furthermore, given the manner of which Ai died, with her finally being able to say the words “I love you”, means that she carried some resentment towards her children.

If she did experience something like that then I understand why it took her so long to say those words to her children. Do I think she genuinely wanted to be a mother, yes, but I think how it happened to her isn’t how she imagined it. But despite that however, you could definitely feel the love between her and Aqua and Ruby. That part for sure was very emotional.

Overall, I’m excited to see what happens next, Aqua being out for revenge is what intrigues me the most. Especially because if it is indeed their father, then it’s only a matter of time until he comes for these two children. I also think that this isn’t the last we’ll see of Ai, I feel like she’ll make an appearance sooner rather than later. Depending on how this anime turns out I may end up jumping to the manga because Aka Akasaka is the author. Who is also the author of one of my all time favourite mangas, Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai. Yes please. I like me some of that.

I cannot wait for the next episode.
