Handa-kun | Bad Prequel to an AMAZING Anime.

Today, I continue with my beef with Anime! First Saturday, now Sunday. Damn.

Many of you don’t know this but Handa-kun is the prequel to the Anime Barakamon. Is that a good thing? No, not really. You can tell by the title of this post that I wasn’t much of a fan of the prequel.

If I compare the prequel to the sequel. I would 100% favour the sequel, in fact, I don’t know why the prequel was made in the first place, I believe full-heartedly that Barakamon is better as a standalone Anime.

Just in case you didn’t know Handa-kun, is about Handa are prodigy calligrapher. The Anime, in essence, basically depicts what he did and his life experiences during his high school days. Which has nothing to do with how Barakamon starts off with by the way. The Prequel was supposed to lead into the sequel, but it didn’t even do that.

Handa-kun and it’s storyline is not strong enough to deem itself the ‘prequel’ to Barakamon, with such a weak story, you wouldn’t expect that to be a sequel. That typically goes for any Anime that aires. If it isn’t good enough, then there won’t be a sequel.

In regards to Barakamon, it’s substantially weak in all aspects, weaker in terms of story, characters, sound, animation, and enjoyment. Especially since both Anime is done by two entirely different studios, it just doesn’t live up to expectations set out by Barakamon.

I see this move (the creation of the prequel), a way to leach off the success of another outstanding Anime for their own. #MONEYGRAB

This Anime, in my opinion, failed to meet the expectations set out by Barakamon, a far more superior Anime. Heck, I wouldn’t even bother watching the Prequel, it doesn’t add to Barakamon in the slightest. I would recommend just watching Barakamon.

Sorry for the rants this weekend, I thought it would be great if I spice up things every once and awhile. Also, gives me time to think about what I would like to review next. See you Wednesday ;3

Handa-kun is watchable and that’s about the best thing I can say for it. There’s worse anime out there, but as you pointed out, this adds nothing of value to the story it is meant to be a prequel for and if they just wanted a slice of life gag comedy they could have just named the main character something else and done that. It really wouldn’t have made that much of a difference.
